What Parents Should Know
Before enrolling, here are the questions parents most often ask — answered where we have a confirmed answer today, and marked honestly where it's still being finalized.
Who's eligible to enroll — which grades, and are college students included?
Path to Nobel is open to students from 9th grade through college. College students have been published co-authors in past volumes. Students under 18 enrol with a parent or guardian, who gives permission at registration for what may be done with their student's work.
When does the next cohort start, and is there an enrolment deadline?
Enrolment for Volume 4 is open now. There is no fixed application deadline — places are filled as students enrol, and the cohort is capped at 20 student authors.
How many hours a week should my student expect to spend on this?
Plan for about five hours a week. That covers watching the week's short video lessons, researching your pioneer, and writing — spread across the week however suits your schedule, since the Masterclass is self-paced.
How long is the program, from enrollment to holding the finished book?
The programme itself runs eight weeks, from enrolment to a finished, peer-reviewed chapter. Publication and printing follow: printing takes about three weeks once final files are approved, then two to three weeks for delivery — so your copies arrive about thirteen to fourteen weeks after enrolment.
Exactly how many mentor sessions and live sessions are included?
One live session a week, every week, on Fridays at 8:00 PM Eastern. For the first four weeks Dr. Rao runs it himself for the whole cohort, office-hours style — join if you can, ask anything. At the end of week four every student is assigned a mentor, and for weeks five to eight the session is your mentor with their small group of about five students, at the same slot unless the group agrees a different time. Students can ask their mentor for extra time directly.
Who are the mentors?
Three mentors are confirmed today: Dr. Srinivasa Rao Kalasapudi (Path to Nobel's founder, a biomedical scientist with 31 peer-reviewed publications), Dr. Rashmi Kulkarni (a microbiologist/geneticist and co-founder of ARNA Genext), and Dr. Uma Devi Koduru (a biology professor with 35+ years of research and teaching experience, currently at Austin Community College). The full mentor roster is being built out as enrollment grows.
What happens if the pioneer or expert my student wants to profile doesn't respond?
Direct contact with your pioneer is a bonus, not a requirement. If they're not reachable, your student can reach out to scientists or associates who worked with them to gather additional, original insight instead.
What are the requirements for the letter of recommendation?
There's no separate requirement — every student who completes the program receives a personalized letter of recommendation from Dr. Rao, referencing their specific chapter and work.
What's the refund, cancellation, and missed-deadline policy?
The enrolment fee is not refundable. If your student cannot continue — school pressure, health, anything life throws at a family — they keep their place and can pick up again in a later volume, for up to three cycles. After that the place lapses. If circumstances are genuinely exceptional, write to us and we will look at it case by case.
Who owns the publication and intellectual property rights to my student's chapter?
The Association for Human Development (AFHD) — the 501(c)(3) non-profit that publishes the anthology — holds the publication and intellectual-property rights to the published work. Your student is credited as a co-author of their chapter.
What are the privacy, safety, and consent protections for my student?
For any student under 18, a parent or guardian gives permission at registration — paying the fee is not treated as consent. You are asked three things separately: to publish your student's chapter with them credited as co-author, which is what the programme is; and, optionally, to print their name, school and photograph, and to use their work in future promotion of Path to Nobel. Declining either optional permission changes nothing about your student's place, their mentor, or whether their chapter is published — students who prefer are published under first name and last initial. You can withdraw the optional permissions at any time; we remove the material from the site and from future printings, though we cannot recall books already sold. We never publish a student's address, phone number or email, and student data is not shared outside the programme. Mentor sessions are group sessions; mentors are not given students' home addresses or phone numbers.
How are the printed books shipped, and how long does delivery take?
Books are printed to order and shipped by USPS Ground. Printing takes about three weeks once the final files are approved, and delivery takes a further two to three weeks after that.
